Dr. John Mullet
Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics
College of Agriculture and Life Sciences
John Mullet received his Ph.D. in cell biology from the University of Illinois. He received post-doctoral training in molecular biology at Rockefeller University in NY, then joined the Department of Biochemistry and Biophysics at Texas A&M University in 1983. He rose through faculty ranks and in 1991 was named the Christine Richardson Professor, five years later he was named the Perry Adkission chair in Agricultural Biology. He became director of the Crop Biotechnology Center and served as director of the Institute for Plant Genomics and Biotechnology. He has secured over $22M in grant funding from the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Department of Energy and the USDA-NIFA, and has published more than 200 peer-reviewed papers during his tenure at Texas A&M University. He has been the thesis advisor of 30 Ph.D. students who received their degrees from Texas A&M University. His research is currently focused on climate mitigation and energy security through the improvement of bioenergy sorghum using genetic, biochemical and biophysical approaches.
