This award is designed to honor those teachers who maintain high expectations of their students and who ensure academic rigor in their courses. Distinguished teachers recognize their responsibility in motivating and contributing to the overall development of the student. Awardees are chosen in late summer by a college-level committee and are honored in their home college/school, receiving a cash award and a framed certificate.
Each fall, The Association of Former Students honors outstanding faculty members for their dedication to teaching. Since the program's inception in 1982, these distinguished achievement awards recognize, encourage and reward the superior classroom teachers — those individuals whose command of their respective discipline, teaching methodologies, pervasive caring, communication skills and commitment to the learning process exemplify the meaning of teacher/mentor in its highest sense.
Faculty Affairs issues the award guidelines, while the award selection process is managed at the college/school level.
Selection Process & Committee
Each college/school coordinator should meet with representatives from the Faculty Advisory Committee and representatives of the Student Council to determine the size and composition of their selection committee. Once the size and composition of the selection committee have been decided, the college/school coordinator will temporarily refrain from further involvement in the process.
