Faculty Development and Funding Opportunities
Nominations for the Andrew Carnegie Fellows Program will open soon. Generous humanities and social sciences research stipends will support projects on political polarization in the United States.
Applications for John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation fellowships open Aug. 18. These fellowships are intended for mid-career faculty pursuing advanced scholarship in any field of knowledge and/or exceptional creativity in any art form.
The Fulbright Scholar Program application cycle opens in February, but there are other programs you may apply for now. To learn more about the many ways you can tap into the Fulbright experience, contact Traci Lacy for a one-on-one informational meeting.
Take your podcast or class to the next level! Three “whisper rooms” in The Studio located in Room 3.653 (6th floor, Evans Annex) are designed to reduce ambient and acoustical noise. Each room is equipped with condenser microphones and a Mac with Audacity, GarageBand, Adobe Audition and Camtasia.
Nominations for the Alan T. Waterman Award are now being accepted through September 15. This award is the National Science Foundation's (NSF) highest honor and recognizes an early career researcher in any field of science or engineering supported by the NSF.
As a founding member institution, Texas A&M continues to encourage and support faculty members joining their colleagues in lending their expertise through nationally published articles published in The Conversation. In support of future faculty contributors, Faculty Affairs and the Division of Marketing and Communications are collaborating to expand The Conversation partnership to include workshops and additional support for pitching article ideas during the fall semester.
Faculty Focus
As a National Inventors Hall of Fame inductee, Dr. Frances Ligler (Department of Biomedical Engineering, College of Engineering) recently visited one of the Hall of Fame’s Camp Invention sites for K-6 grade students.
Dr. Carol Binzer (Department of Residence Life) has been named the 2023 Hullabaloo Instructor of the Year. Dr. Binzer was nominated by her first-year Hullabaloo U students for her demonstrated dedication to their success at Texas A&M.
Dr. Jason Moats (Texas A&M Engineering Extension Service) was selected to lead the USA Center for Rural Public Health Preparedness by the Texas A&M School of Public Health.
Dr. Matthew Ege (James Benjamin Department of Accounting, Mays Business School) will receive the 2023 Deloitte Foundation Wildman Medal Award from the American Accounting Association for his contribution to a paper published in Accounting, Organizations and Society.
Dr. Mahmoud El-Halwagi (Artie McFerrin Department of Chemical Engineering, College of Engineering) was named the 2022 Trevor Kletz Merit Award winner for his process safety design concept contributions to chemical engineering.
Campus News
Zoom will be retiring older client versions for Zoom Client for Meetings to address a security vulnerability. After August 5, you will not be able to log in or join meetings from versions below 5.3.0. Please be sure to update to the latest version of Zoom software to ensure you are able to participate in virtual meetings hosted via the platform. If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact your local IT support or Help Desk Central.
Texas A&M Health was awarded a $3 million grant from the National Cancer Institute to study immune-targeted precancerous lesion treatments. At-risk patients are expected to benefit from the study in terms of cancer prevention and immune recognition.
The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences will offer new undergraduate degree programs for students pursuing hospitality industry career opportunities through the newly named Department of Hospitality, Hotel Management and Tourism. Formerly named the Department of Recreation, Park and Tourism Sciences, the department is positioned to provide students the transformational educational experiences necessary for them to take Aggie hospitality global.
Texas A&M announced a new bachelor’s degree program to address a national need for more certified financial planners. The Bachelor of Science degree in financial planning will be offered by the Department of Agricultural Economics (College of Agriculture and Life Sciences) beginning with the fall 2023 semester.
